The four-color printing process of color boxes is based on the mixing rule of subtractive color method, which uses yellow, magenta and green primary colors plus black ink for printing. With the development of printing machinery and production technology, color printing has gradually developed from multi-color printing to printing with several fixed colors. At first, people had thought of using green, magenta and yellow for printing and copying, but the effect was not ideal. Later, people added a fourth color – black on the basis of three-color printing, which greatly improved the color effect of printed products. At present, the four-color printing process has become the international mainstream printing method.

Generally, the reasonable arrangement of color sequence of four-color machine printing is: black, green, red, yellow, and also according to the reverse color sequence of yellow, red, green, black printing. When four-color machine printing, the printing interval between colors is short, while when monochrome machine printing, the printing interval between colors is long. When printing the second color, the color has dried, so it belongs to the overprinting mode of wet and dry. It is because of the different overprinting mode, the color sequence arrangement is also different.

The color sequence arrangement of monochrome machine is in many forms, but the specific choice of which color sequence can be considered from the following aspects:

1, according to the size of the color box graphic area to arrange the color sequence, the first printing of small graphic, after printing full version or large format graphic.

2, according to the transparency of the three primary color ink and covering power to arrange the color sequence, poor transparency of green and black printing, transparency of good yellow and red ink printing.

3, according to the brightness of the three primary colors to arrange the color sequence to print dark color first, after printing bright color, that is, green, black first printing, red, yellow after printing.

  • According to the characteristics of the original color box, the color pictures mainly with warm colors should be printed with cyan or black first, and the color pictures mainly with cold tones should be printed with red or yellow first.
